#10 - Sherlock Holmes 2
Normally, the problem with sequals is that their story fails to live up to the story of the original. Luckily for Sherlock Holmes, living up to the original story shouldn't be a problem. The two problems with the first Sherlock were the slightly boring story and the honestly unthreatening boring villain. With Proffesor Moriarty coming into play the villain part is already solved, so all they need to do to make this a perfect sequel is a good story that will give the characters a bit more to do than be witty at each other. (Though in the last film, the characters alone were enough for me to leave the theater impressed.)
#9 - The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn
Tintin movie? Check. Animated? Check. Written by...Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat!? Check! Produced by...Peter Jackson!? Check! Directed by....oh sweet jesus...Steven Spielberg!!!? I am so pumped for this movie and you should be too. (It would be higher, but there's still no trailer so I'm a little bit wary of it.)
#8 - Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides
It's time to cut the Pirates franchise back to basics. Jack Sparrow vs. Captain Barbossa in a race for some mystical treasure. I think that all three pirates movies were fun, but none of them were incredible except the first one. Anyone who wants to rag on the new movie before it's released please try and remember how much fun the first one was.
#7 - X-men First Class
A prequel for Professor X and Magneto starring Michael Fassbender (aka that British guy from Inglorious Bastards). Not much more to say. It's an x-men prequel with no trailer. Pumped.
#6 - Paul
New movie from genius Brit funnymen Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It's going to be interesting to see if the movie has the same feel as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz without Edgar Wright writing or directing.
#5 - Green Lantern
The second superhero movie on this list, this one is a brand new property, never before made into a movie. It's pretty clear they're trying to make it into DC's Iron Man, but I'm still excited, and we'll see how it goes.
#4 - Thor
Super hero movie number three, and it's a doozie. This will be a real test to see whether a) hollywood can handle probably the most fantastical superhero story they've tackled yet, and b) whether mainstream audiences will be able to handle said story. It's a real test for Marvel, and a failure here could lead to a roadblock for The Avengers. I'm still pumped for it anyway. Just look at that Thor outfit. Good stuff!
#3 - Cowboys and Aliens
So the title alone is awesome. Then lets cast Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford as the leads. If Hollywood doesn't make this into a good movie I swear I'm going to go off in the woods and live in a tree for a year.
#2 - Captain America
So judging by the costume alone, this is going to be a great movie. Captain America is one of Marvel's most important superheroes and this is a chance to show off why. This is the most important movie leading up to The Avengers. If this movie tanks then the project that marvel's been leading up to for so long will be in jeopardy. I for one am totally pumped. Can't wait for a trailer!
#1 - Sucker Punch
So very, very excited. This movie is an important test for Zack Snyder. He's already shown that he's an excellent action director and knows how to adapt stories to screen incredibly well, but now he has to show that he can write a cohesive story as well. The basic plot is excellent and is something I'm really hopeful for. If this works it may well be my favorite movie of the year. If it doesn't it will be my most dissapointing film of the year. It's all up to you Mr. Snyder. Don't fuck up.
